Why Spider-Man’s Brand New Day Costume Is Actually a Tobey Maguire Easter Egg
Tom Holland‘s costume in Spider-Man: Brand New Day features a special Easter Egg about Tobey Maguire. The upcoming MCU movie will see the Hollywood star reprising his iconic role as Peter Parker.
What did Tom Holland say about his new Spider-Man: Brand New Day costume?
In a newly revealed Spider-Man: Brand New Day promotional clip, Tom Holland has explained how Peter Parker, after meeting Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Man variants in No Way Home, has redesigned his costume to pay tribute to their iconic suit designs.
“We said, what if we made a suit that was an homage to Tobey’s and Andrew’s designs? Because now my Peter Parker had met those guys.” Holland added, “So we kind of created a spider-child of all three costumes.”
Beyond Peter’s suit getting a fresh overhaul, Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s story is also expected to be a departure from previous installments, at least based on what Holland has teased in a recent media interaction.
Unlike his past solo Spider-Man outings, Brand New Day will feel more like a mystery-solving experience, according to the actor. “This movie is a real mystery and for a large portion of the film, even Spider-Man is a little bit at odds and lost and is like, ‘What is going on?’ We’re just trying to find ways to make this movie feel like a detective movie.”

Besides Holland, the movie also features returning cast members, with Zendaya reprising her role as MJ alongside Jacob Batalon as Ned. Mark Ruffalo will also make an appearance as Bruce Banner or Hulk.
Sadie Sink will make her MCU debut with this movie, where she is playing an undisclosed role. Rumors suggest she might be playing X-Men character Jean Grey. Other key cast members include Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out on July 31, 2026.
