Best Supergirl Movies Ranked, Including Milly Alcock’s DCU Film
We’ve ranked every DC movie which features Supergirl as a lead character. The rankings are based on each film’s Tomatometer ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. This comes ahead of the June 26 release of DC Studios’ highly anticipated Supergirl movie, which is also included on this list.
Supergirl movies ranked by RT scores
4) Supergirl (1984)
At the bottom of the list is 1984’s Supergirl movie, which has a 19% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This was the first time that the beloved DC hero was adapted in live-action. The 1984 film was billed as a spin-off of Christopher Reeve’s Superman franchise. The movie debuted to negative reviews from critics and fans, who weren’t impressed with its campy tone and very lacking special effects. However, Helen Slater’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl was universally praised by many critics, who felt that she was able to embody the hero’s sincerity, grace, and physicality. The cast also included acclaimed stars Faye Dunaway, Peter O’Toole, Mia Farrow, Peter Cook, and Brenda Vaccaro.
3) Legion of Super-Heroes (2023)
Next up on the list is the 2023 animated movie Legion of Super-Heroes. It featured Meg Donnelly’s Kara Zor-El/Supergirl as the story’s main hero, who gets assistance from The Legion of Academy students Braniac 5, Mon-El, Bouncing Boy, and Triplicate Girl. The 2023 film currently holds a 50% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics were disappointed with the film’s clichéd high school plot and flat animation style. Despite this, some critics and fans also appreciated its fun inclusion of lesser-known and obscure DC heroes.
2) Supergirl (2026)
Taking the second spot is 2026’s DCU movie Supergirl, starring House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock. Ahead of its theatrical debut, it has already received mixed reviews from critics, garnering a 58% RT score based on 100 reviews. Early reviews described the new film’s plot as disappointingly flat and messy. Despite this, Alcock’s fierce performance has been garnering praise from critics, who felt that she was definitely the best part of the movie. In addition, critics have also enjoyed Jason Momoa’s scene-stealing portrayal of Lobo, while also commending his dynamic chemistry with Alcock’s titular hero.
1) The Flash (2023)
Claiming the number one spot is 2023’s DCEU movie, The Flash, which starred Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. It has a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its Popcornmeter score is significantly higher at 81%. Even though the 2023 film received polarizing reviews, Calle’s Supergirl performance was considered one of the movie’s silver linings. Many critics were impressed by her on-screen presence, charisma, and action sequences, which is why some felt that the film wasted the opportunity to showcase more of her character.
