Zendaya Eyed as Beloved Action Movie Franchise’s Lead Replacement

Zendaya may venture into a popular action movie franchise as a leading lady. The Hollywood star already has a big lineup of blockbusters this year, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

What action movie franchise is Zendaya being eyed for?

Trusted insider Jeff Sneider claims Zendaya could become the new lead of the Bourne franchise, potentially succeeding Matt Damon. On his website, The InSneider, the scooper mentioned that “Zendaya is ready to stop playing second-fiddle in giant studio blockbusters.”

Per Sneider, the Bourne series may witness a major reboot going forward. A few days earlier, the insider had mentioned that Zendaya was reportedly being considered for an upcoming action film. This week, his sources told him that Zendaya reportedly had discussions on replacing Matt Damon, who has previously played the protagonist Jason Bourne in four films, as the lead of Universal’s Bourne series.

Additionally, Sneider revealed that the rebooted Bourne movie would mainly focus on a female amnesiac spy.

So far, Damon has played the leading character in four Bourne movies between 2002 and 2016. He wasn’t present in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. Notably, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum remains the franchise’s highest-grossing entry. It made over $440 million worldwide on a budget of $130 million.

The last film featuring Damon as Bourne, 2016’s Jason Bourne, is the second-highest-grossing movie in the billion-dollar franchise. This installment made over $415 million globally, against a budget of $120 million.

As for Zendaya, she’s got a big lineup of anticipated movies in 2026. Next month, two of her tentpole projects, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, will hit theaters. Later this year, she will be seen in the third installment of the Dune franchise alongside Timothée Chalamet.

Zendaya was most recently seen in The Drama alongside Robert Pattinson, Hailey Gates, Alana Haim, Zoe Winters, and Mamoudou Athie.
