Supergirl: What DCU Movies & TV Shows You Should Watch Before Milly Alcock Movie
Supergirl will be one of the biggest releases of the year. Here are some of the biggest DC Universe connections the movie will have and what you should watch ahead of its debut this week.
Supergirl is set to release in theaters on June 26, 2026, and will be based on Tom King’s 2021-2022 comic book series illustrated Bilquis Evely. The film stars Milly Alcock, who will play the titular role of Kara Zor-El. It is written by Ana Nogueira and produced by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While we don’t know exactly what Supergirl will feature, we do know the film will connect to the DCU in many ways. In that vein, here are some of the biggest connections to look out for.
Supergirl has a few major DCU connections to look out for
First up, and the most obvious, is the connection Supergirl will have with the only other DCU movie, Superman. Milly Alcock debuted as Kara Zor-El in a brief scene at the end of the film. Her inclusion set the stage for her very own movie, and it’s likely that her cousin, Kal, will be appearing in this movie as well. The relationship between the two Kryptonians, and just how different they are as people and heroes, is likely to be a big thing throughout the DCU, so its best to brush up.
Other than that, there’s few projects in the DCU that warrant a necessary rewatch ahead of Supergirl. Creature Commandos and Peacemaker are both extremely good in their own right, but likely won’t feature too much in the way of connections to Supergirl. Still, checking them out to get a larger picture of the overall DCU, especially ahead of show’s like Lanterns, would be a good way to familiarize yourself with the property as a whole.
While Supergirl serves to stand as a fully standalone film, the movie is also going to set up the future of the DCU in its own way. Executive producer Lars P. Winther hinted to THR recently that Supergirl will end in a way that sets up the next Superman movie, which Alcock will also be appearing in, in a very particular way.
“Man of Tomorrow, which is what we’re shooting now, [Alcock] is in that movie. Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up,” Winther said. “She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again. That’s where she is in Man of Tomorrow. It’s all more Earth-based. So we have Man of Tomorrow, and we already know what the next movie’s going to be after that, and she’s a big part of that.”
Needless to say, Supergirl is going to have some big ramifications for the ongoing DCU, so it’s best to get yourself refreshed and caught up now before the cinematic universe continues to grow.
