Geena Davis talks The Long Kiss Goodnight sequel possibilities
While speaking with Deadline at the opening night of the Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas, Davis noted that she has always wanted to make a sequel to The Long Kiss Goodnight.
Reacting to Samuel L. Jackson’s confession about The Long Kiss Goodnight being his favorite film that he has starred in, Davis stated, “It’s my favorite too. I’m supposed to say Thelma & Louise because that movie is irreplaceable, but I have to say, I had so much fun with Sam, and we’ve always wished that we could do a sequel.”
She then divulged that The Long Kiss Goodnight team decided to alter the movie’s original ending specifically to leave room for a sequel. “In fact, people might not know, but we changed the ending [of the movie] so that Sam’s character was alive,” the Academy Award winner remarked. “In the original script, he dies, and we were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. We want to be able to do a sequel if it happens.’ But it probably still could. We’re not too old!”
Directed by Renny Harlin, the film revolves around the journey of a woman, played by Davis, who struggles with amnesia and comes to discover a dark past involving a government conspiracy.
During the interview, Geena Davis also opened up about her upcoming movie, titled The Kellys, that features a star-studded lineup including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Hemsworth, Kelsey Asbille, and Abby Elliott. “My friends were asking, ‘What is it about?’ I said, ‘Arnold Schwarzenegger’s in it! Okay. You get the idea.’ It’s a full-on action movie and very funny too, and really fun,” she explained.
