Obsession 2 Teased by Director, But There’s a Catch

Curry Barker has teased Obsession 2, though it may be some time before the sequel arrives. The hit horror film has been shocking box office experts with its performance since its release in May, which delayed its digital release.

What is the update on Obsession 2?

Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Barker teased a potentially “cool” idea for an Obsession sequel.

“I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2,” Barker said. “I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out.”

This isn’t the first time that Barker has teased an expansion of Obsession. The filmmaker had previously teased an idea for an Obsession anthology series, where each episode would deal with a different character using the One Wish Willow. Barker has stated that a potential sequel would likely not continue Nikki’s tragic story after the film’s ending.

Barker’s next film, Anything But Ghosts, will feature a passing reference to Obsession. Following that, the filmmaker will be busy directing a reboot of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Obsession has grossed over $286 million at the global box office, on its way to making almost 30 times its filming budget. Together with Backrooms, the films have renewed audiences’ interest in horror films, with other movies taking a page out of its book.

Obsession stars Michael JohnstonInde NavarretteCooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter. The film is produced by James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri, and Roman Viaris. It is executive-produced by Jason Blum, Leonora Darby, David Haring, Mark Lane, and Ruzanna Kegeyan, with Cooper Tomlinson serving as associate producer.

Obsession is currently playing in theaters.
