The Rover is leaving Netflix next month

Netflix subscribers have only a limited time left to watch The Rover, starring Robert Pattinson and Iron Man 3 actor Guy Pearce. The 2014 post-apocalyptic thriller is scheduled to exit the streaming service on July 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix

Written and directed by David Michôd, from a story by Michôd and Joel Edgerton, The Rover is set in a dystopian near-future Australia, approximately a decade after a global economic crisis has transformed large sections of the country.

The film centers on Eric, a solitary man whose vehicle is stolen by a gang of criminals fleeing a failed robbery. During their escape, the thieves leave behind Rey, an injured young American played by Pattinson. Convinced Rey can lead him to the gang, Eric forces him to join the pursuit, setting off on a new, uneasy journey.

Alongside Pearce and Pattinson, the film’s cast includes Scoot McNairy as Henry, David Field as Archie, Tawanda Manyimo as Caleb, and Gillian Jones as Grandma. The film received a generally favorable critical response. It currently holds a 67 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 172 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience score stands at 52 percent.

Max Nicholson wrote in a review of the film for IGN that, “Director David Michôd’s The Rover is a desolate, dark and thought-provoking film that explores the aftermath of societal collapse in the Australian outback. While the story here is gaunt and lacking in some respects, the two main characters, played by Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, are strong and engaging enough to distract from the mostly static narrative.”
