The Batman 2: Sebastian Stan’s Role Revealed & It’s Not Harvey Dent

In a major twist, it appears that Sebastian Stan won’t be playing Harvey Dent in The Batman 2 after all. It was announced earlier this year that Stan would be starring in the DC sequel, with multiple reports and outlets saying he’d been cast as Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Batman 2, also known as The Batman: Part II, is scheduled to be released in United States theaters next year. A sequel to 2022’s The Batman, the new movie is once again being directed by Matt Reeves and will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Who is Sebastian Stan playing in The Batman 2?

Stan joined the cast in January 2026, around which time it was also reported that he’d be playing Harvey Dent in the movie. Scarlett Johansson, meanwhile, was heavily speculated to be playing Dent’s wife Gilda, while many believed Charles Dance to be playing Dent’s father.

According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, however, Stan will be playing an entirely different character in The Batman 2: Victor Zsasz.

Victor Zsasz is a character created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle who first appeared in 1992’s Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1. Victor is a psychopathic serial killer known for carving a tally mark on himself for each victim that he kills. The character was played by Tim Booth in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and by Anthony Carrigan in the popular Gotham TV show. Additionally, Chris Messina portrayed him in 2020’s Birds of Prey.

Sneider notes that Reeves previously said The Batman 2 villain has “never really been done in a movie before,” which certainly wouldn’t be the case for Harvey Dent; Zsasz’s roles in the aforementioned movies, however, are all minor appearances. Stan has also been seen with a shaved head, which further points to Victor Zsasav casting.

Warner Bros. Pictures has not commented on the matter at this time. The Batman 2 will be released on October 1, 2027.
