In addition to Wahlberg and Abdul-Mateen II, By Any Means also stars, Nicole Beharie, Josh Lucas, LisaGay Hamilton, LaChanze, and Ethan Embry, with David Strathairn and Giancarlo Esposito in supporting roles. The movie is directed by Elegance Bratton from a script by Sascha Penn.
By Any Means trailer review
The new trailer for By Any Means suggest the film will be big for Wahlberg. The movie follows the story of real-life mobster Gregory Scarpa, who is tasked with teaming up with a black FBI agent to investigate murders of civil rights leaders in 1966. While the movie sounds as action packed as other Wahlberg movies, it also looks to be a return to form for the actor.
Wahlberg has starred in a number of critically acclaimed films. However, in recent years, the star has appeared in several films that have seen less-than-stellar reviews, including projects like Uncharted, Flight Risk, The Family Plan, and more. With By Any Means tackling a much more serious matter, it looks like Wahlberg will be able to not only flex his action skills, but also show off more of his acting range in the process.
Getting to work with an accomplished actor like Abdul-Mateen II is also a huge plus. Together, the two can play off of one another in a way Wahlberg might not have been able to in past movies.
