James Bond: Tom Francis Finally Breaks Silence on Audition Reports

Tom Francis has finally spoken about the James Bond audition reports. Notably, according to reports published last month, Francis has auditioned for Denis Villeneuve’s 007 movie, which will be the 26th entry in the franchise.

During an interview with Variety, Francis faced questions about whether he could confirm or deny if he had auditioned for the next James Bond feature. The Sunset Boulevard actor effectively dodged the question. He noted that everyone in the United Kingdom watches James Bond as they grow up and wants to star in those movies. “It’s such a good franchise,” he added.

When the interviewer asked what Francis could bring to the role that the audience hasn’t seen before, he again sidestepped directly answering the question. “I feel like I have to audition to be in that position to even start thinking about it.”

The 26th Bond feature is one of the most highly anticipated movies. The announcement that Villeneuve will be directing the movie came in June 2025. A month later, Steven Knight, whose credits include Eastern Promises and Peaky Blinders, boarded the project as the screenwriter. All these came after Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to the IP in February that year. Mike Hopkins, the head of Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, said at the time. “Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment.”

Hopkins later added that it was an honor “to continue this treasured heritage and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.”

Amy Pascal is overseeing the project through her Pascal Pictures, alongside David Heyman of Heyday Films. Not much information is available on the plot of the film. However, in May, Knight indicated that their entry in the franchise would reinvent the enduring character.

Villeneuve’s Bond movie currently doesn’t have a release date.
