This Hulu Series Is a Frontrunner to Win an Emmy

The Hulu and FX drama Love Story, more fully known as Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, is one of the leaders to win an Emmy. More specifically, the show is a frontrunner to win the category for limited series, which has only grown more competitive over the last decade with the breadth of programming on various streamers. In fact, Love Story has to face more than several contenders from Netflix, HBO Max, Peacock, and Amazon Prime Video, so its current lead is far from assured. Releasing on February 12 on FX and FX on Hulu, the biographical romance series is the fifth installment in the American Story anthology. The voting round for the 2026 Emmy nominations begins in a week on June 11, with the announcement on the full list of nominees to be revealed on July 8.

The FX drama Love Story is predicted to win the Emmy for Limited Series

As of June 3, Love Story holds the top spot to win the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series of Anthology, based on a prediction market on Kalshi. However, its lead is fairly thin as two other shows are right on its heels in this early bet.

  • Love Story: John F. Kennedy and Carolyn Bissette (FX) – 32%
  • Beef (Netflix) – 27%
  • Half Man (HBO Max) – 20%
  • Lord of the Flies (Netflix) – 9%
  • DTF St. Louis (HBO Max) – 8%
  • The Beast in Me (Netflix) – 7%*
  • Death by Lightning (Netflix) – 6%*
  • All Her Fault (Peacock) – 5%*
  • Bait (Prime Video) – 4%*
  • Black Rabbit (Netflix) – Less than 1%*

Looking at the history of the bet, which began in the middle of April, Love Story wasn’t always the favorite to win. The second season of Beef held the top spot until May 6 when the FX drama took over. Half-Man emerged as the frontrunner for a brief moment in April and since then has held on in a solid third place for about a month.

Variety gave Beef its pick in its early Emmy predictions, while identifying several other competitors for the award. This includes Monsters: The Ed Gein Story, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Washington Black, and Imperfect Women. Some of the reasons Beef could win this year is due to the powerful performances from Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Cailee Spaeny, and the fact that the first season of the show won the Emmy in the category in 2023. In fact, Netflix has taken the award the last three years, with Baby Reindeer and Adolescence winning in 2024 and 2025.

In March, the FX limited series set record streaming numbers on Hulu and Disney+ with over 25 million hours of viewing across both platforms. The network stated that viewership for the show had steadily grown since its premiere.

However, the series faced critical remarks from Jack Schlossberg who excoriated Ryan Murphy’s interpretation of his late uncle John F. Kennedy Jr. and his relationship with Carolyn Bessette, in his interview with CBS Sunday Morning. Actress Daryl Hannah, who is portrayed as a character on the show, told The New York Times that Love Story was a “tragedy-exploiting” show that made her look “irritating, self-absorbed, whiny, and appropriate” and “not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct, or my relationship with John.”

Still, the nine-episode series received a high 81% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though it received a mixed 65% rating from audiences on the site. According to series creator Connor Hines, the next season of Love Story could center on the whirlwind romance between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
