Sequel Movie To End Joe Locke’s Acclaimed Netflix Series Arrives Soon

Netflix will premiere the sequel to Joe Locke’s beloved 2022 coming-of-age drama soon. Although the original entry was a series, this will be a feature film. It will serve as the conclusion to Nick and Charlie’s story.

Heartstopper Forever hits Netflix in July 2026

Heartstopper Forever will debut on Netflix on Friday, July 17, 2026. A trailer for the film has yet to be released. But a set of photos from the sequel surfaced online last week, giving fans the first look at it.

It is based on Alice Oseman’s 2017 graphic novel series, Heartstopper. She developed the original show for Netflix while also serving as its writer. The series currently has three seasons, but Oseman had hoped for four. However, due to various factors, including a reported drop in viewership for Season 3, the possibility of a fourth season became uncertain.

Oseman and producers eventually worked things out with the streaming giant and decided to end the series with a film.

While discussing this change in format with Tudum, the author admitted it was something she took time to digest as well. But she also said, “We are feeling very ambitious about what is possible in a movie format. With no need for end-of-episode cliffhangers or a new twist every episode, every part of Heartstopper can be elevated to a higher quality to create something memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric.”

Heartstopper Forever will adapt Nick and Charlie, the sixth novel in the Heartstopper book series. It will be directed by Wash Westmoreland with Oseman writing its screenplay.

The majority of the Heartstopper’s original cast are reprising their respective roles in the film. That includes Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Tobie Donovan, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, William Gao, Kizzy Edgell, and Rhea Norwood, among others.

On the other hand, Olivia Colman, who played Nick’s supportive mother, Sarah Nelson, will not be returning. Instead, Anna Maxwell Martin will succeed her.
