Jake Schreier on X-Men casting rumors
Although the MCU X-Men reboot has yet to enter production, casting rumors have been heating up, with many wondering who will be involved. Jake Schreier, the director of the upcoming film, has addressed the viral reports that have been surfacing. He clarified that the rumors circulating online are not official.
Interacting with Collider at the Gotham Television Awards, the Thunderbolts* director said, “We’re talking about things, we’re thinking about things.” He added, “I can tell you most of the stuff that gets posted online, I don’t know where it comes from, because it doesn’t come from our room, and it isn’t what we’re discussing. But there is a process.”
This comes two months after Schreier revealed he and Marvel were talking about bringing something fresh to the franchise. Speaking with ScreenRant in April, he added that they were discussing narrative possibilities that “[felt] like [they] were succeeding” the 20th Century Fox movies.
Marvel first began laying the groundwork for the X-Men reboot in 2023. Deadline reported in September of that year that the studio would be setting up writer meetings in the fall for pitches. Schreier boarded the film by Summer 2025, with Kevin Feige confirming it to CBR in July. Meanwhile, Schreier revealed the involvement of his two collaborators from Beef, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, as writers in April.
The filmmaker began work later, telling Empire Magazine that it was “very, very exciting.” He also said he would be drawing from his experience making Thunderbolts* while developing it.
While the X-Men reboot continues its development, fans can satisfy their desire to see the team through two highly anticipated titles dropping this year: X-Men ’97 Season 2 and Avengers: Doomsday.
The former will pick up from where Season 1 left off. It will follow the eponymous team as its members are scattered across different time periods. Meanwhile, the latter will see Cyclops, Professor X, Nightcrawler, Magneto, Mystique, Gambit, and Beast go up against Doctor Doom.
