‘Let’s Rob the Whole World’: Samara Weaving & Kyle Gallner Talk Crime Movie Carolina Caroline | Interview

Carolina Caroline stars Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner spoke with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese to discuss their new crime movie. The duo discussed their characters’ relationship, how they impact each other, and how shooting the film sequentially was such a help. Carolina Caroline is out in theaters on June 5, 2026.

“Acclaimed director Adam Carter Rehmeier’s romantic crime thriller stars Samara Weaving as Caroline Daniels, whose desire to leave her small Texas town brings her into the orbit of a charismatic con man (Kyle Gallner), and together they weave a path of crime and passion across the American Southeast. Also starring Kyra Sedgwick, the film features a wide-ranging country music soundtrack, with tracks from artists such as Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Loretta Lynn, and over a dozen others,” says the official synopsis.

Tyler Treese: Samara, I wanted to ask you about Caroline’s embrace of con artistry and eventually robbing banks. There’s a rush that she initially enjoys and a sense of freedom that comes with it. What did you find most interesting about the psychological aspects of the character?

Samara Weaving: Yeah, she has such a great arc. Tom Dean did such an incredible job writing her. I mean, I just inhaled the script. She’s been in this small town with the same people for such a long time, and she doesn’t really know who she is. Her mom left, and she just wants to get out. Then this handsome, wolfish man comes along and offers her a ticket out of there.

I think there’s such a fantasy-romance element that comes with that. The delusion starts breaking, and reality eventually hits, but I loved that. She starts out as this doe-eyed, hopeful girl who’s also simultaneously very bored. Then she begins to understand herself, gains confidence, and decides, “I’m gonna go rob some banks and get real weird.” It was so much fun.

Yeah, there’s no better delusion than Kyle over here. What could be better than that?

Weaving: Come on. Let’s all get deluded by Kyle [laughs].

Tyler Treese: Kyle, Oliver’s obviously a bad influence on Caroline, but they do have a very real connection. She discovers a lot about herself through that relationship, and the chemistry between you two is incredible as well. What did you like most about the dynamic between the characters?

Weaving: I think what you said is true. Yes, he’s corrupting her, but I think she’s actually corrupting him by the end. She’s like, “Let’s rob the whole world.”

Kyle Gallner: Yeah, you definitely take it further. I think he just loves her so much that he’s like, “I’ll give you anything you want.”

Weaving: That’s so sweet.

Gallner: I think that’s the cool thing about this movie. At the end of the day, it really is a love story. These two are ride-or-die for each other, basically from the beginning of the movie to the end. I think that’s pretty cool for a film like this.

I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I really like the relationship. I think it’s something special, and it helps carry the film.

Tyler Treese: Samara, there’s this crushing scene you have with Kyra Sedgwick about halfway through the film, and she really goes for it. It propels the story into the second half. What stood out to you about her as a scene partner?

Samara Weaving: Oh, she came in like a whirlwind, dropped the mic, and left. I’m really grateful that Adam shot everything pretty much in chronological order because it helped so much.

She came in and did such an incredible job. It really informed all of the scenes afterward because I got to sit with that emotional experience for two days. I carried it through the rest of the film, especially during the conversations about whether Caroline is a good person or a bad person, whether she’s like her mom, and all those fears that come up.

I loved having that scene behind me. If it had been the other way around, I would’ve thought, “Oh no, I could have done so much more.”

Kyle Gallner: Yeah, it’s hard not knowing. Especially if you play something a little more reserved, and then she comes in as intense as she did.

Weaving: Exactly. And the scene right after that, we had such a beautiful, spontaneous moment. I’m going to the car. I want to get out of there, but I just need to feel loved. I stuck my hand out the window, and Kyle just held it.

That was such a magical moment, and Adam was there to shift the camera and capture it. I’m so glad we filmed that afterward because I don’t think that moment would’ve happened if I hadn’t already experienced that scene with Kyra.

Gallner: Yeah, it’s hard to know.

Thanks to Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner for taking the time to talk about Caroline Carolina.
