Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day Is Already Sparking Big Reactions

The first reactions to Steven Spielberg‘s new alien movie, Disclosure Day, are coming in, and they seem to agree. The filmmaker directed the sci-fi film from a script by David Koepp, who developed it from a story by Spielberg. The cast includes Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild, Josh O’Connor as Daniel Kellner, Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon, and Colman Domingo as Hugo Wakefield.

Disclosure Day gets strong first reactions

Disclosure Day has garnered largely positive early reactions from critics. Jairo Jiménez took to X (formerly, Twitter) to share, “Spielberg’s Disclosure Day is a hypnotic, captivating UFO thriller that completely disarms your soul. A bold screenplay by Koepp. Blunt & O’Connor form a magnetic & beautifully human couple. The best performances of both their careers. An astonishing masterpiece. You won’t blink!”

Meanwhile, The Mary Sue’s Rachel Leishman noted that with Disclosure Day, Spielberg is “yet again reminding us that aliens are out there in an iconic mix of both Close Encounters and E.T.” Leishman added that the movie is “surprisingly funny, poignant, and thrilling to watch in that special Spielberg way,” before hailing the filmmaker and aliens as “a perfect combo.”

Nicolás Delgadillo of DiscussingFilm observed that the movie never goes “how you think it will.” Delgadillo elaborated, “Spielberg absolutely cooking with gas here and then some. Probably my favorite extraterrestrial movie since Arrival.”

Elsewhere, Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky wrote, “Disclosure Day is absolutely phenomenal! Truly something special. I was hanging onto every word, captivated by the story as it all played out. The score perfectly elevates every single scene. Part mystery, part Twilight Zone, something new entirely. I shed a tear at the end.”

Further, Germain Lussier of Gizmodo called Disclosure Day Spielberg’s “best film in 20 years.”

The upcoming science fiction film seems to be garnering a favorable buzz. A clearer sense of the critical consensus will become apparent as Disclosure Day approaches its US release date on June 12, 2026.
