Gerard Butler’s Plane to stream on Prime Video next month

Plane will land on Amazon Prime Video’s streaming platform on Friday, June 12, 2026.

While it is not based on a novel, the story is from Charles Cummings, the writer behind hit novels like A Foreign Country and Box 88. French filmmaker Jean-François Richet directed the film while J. P. Davis co-wrote the screenplay with the author.

Plane follows Brodie Torrance, a commercial pilot, who learns that a homicide suspect, Louis Gaspare, and an officer will be among his passengers during his flight from Singapore to Honolulu. Due to a severe thunderstorm, Brodie makes an emergency landing on a remote, rebel-controlled island. To his dismay, the rebels take the passengers hostage for ransom. With no way out, Brodie reluctantly teams up with Louis and fights the armed rebels.

The film’s supporting cast includes Mike Colter as Louis, Tony Goldwyn as David, Yoson An as Samuel, Evan Dane Taylor as Datu, Paul Ben-Victor as Terry, and Daniella Pineda as Bonnie, among others.

Lionsgate acquired the rights to distribute Plane in 2016 but gave it up during the COVID-19 pandemic, reportedly due to insurance issues. Solstice Studios tried to acquire the distribution rights, but Lionsgate reacquired them in 2021, per Deadline.

The film finally arrived in theaters on January 13, 2023. Both critics and audiences had a favorable reception, leading to impressive scores on review aggregator sites and box office success.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a critics’ score of 79% and an audience score of 94%. Over 100K users on IMDb have rated it 6.5 out of 10. Financially, Plane was a profitable film, earning $74.5 million against a reported budget of $25 million.
