James Gunn’s ‘Favorite Action Scenes’ Are Great News for Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn may have just teased how big Superman: Man of Tomorrow could really become. The DC filmmaker hinted that some of his new favorite action scenes are in the sequel. The comments instantly caught fans’ attention because Gunn was comparing the upcoming film to some of the biggest sequences from his earlier superhero projects.
James Gunn reveals his favorite superhero action scenes
While chatting with fans on Threads, James Gunn looked back at several scenes from the past projects that he still considers personal favorites.
Gunn pointed to Yondu’s Ravager hallway attack in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the long one-shot battle from Vol. 3, the giant building collapse sequence in The Suicide Squad, and the butterfly fight from the Peacemaker finale. Gunn also mentioned Harcourt’s brutal bar fight from the show’s second-season premiere.
Gunn also talked about Harley Quinn’s action scene from the second Suicide Squad movie. The director said, “Thanks. It’s one of my favorites. We had a lot of fun doing it. And yes, that’s really Margot unlocking the lock with her toes.”
Gunn teases Man of Tomorrow’s action
The discussion shifted once fans asked whether anything from his current Superman sequel could eventually join that list. Gunn answered, “Yeah, there are a couple of possibilities in this film,” referring to Superman: Man of Tomorrow. That short response was enough to spark excitement online, especially because the director rarely compares unfinished material to scenes fans already praise so heavily.
The sequel officially arrives on July 9, 2027, with David Corenswet returning as Superman. Gunn confirmed the title himself and also shared an artwork featuring Superman alongside Lex Luthor in his armored Warsuit.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously announced Gunn would return to direct and write the sequel following Superman’s strong box-office run. The film reportedly earned more than $611 million globally, becoming the year’s highest-grossing superhero release.
Before Man of Tomorrow arrives, DC’s rebooted universe will continue with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock and the horror-inspired Clayface movie. Gunn and DC.
