2 Insanely Powerful DC Characters Confirmed To Appear in DCU Very Soon
James Gunn just confirmed two fan-favorite DC villains are heading to the DCU, and the lineup might surprise you. These iconic characters could reshape the entire future of DC’s cinematic universe.
James Gunn confirms two massive DC characters will appear very soon
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn teased on Threads that two iconic DC characters will join the DCU “in not too long.” A fan asked Gunn whether the franchise would ever feature General Zod, Doomsday, Dr. Fate, Black Adam, Ultraman with the Crime Syndicate, or Darkseid. Gunn responded cryptically, stating, “Two of them in not too long…”
One of those characters is almost certainly Darkseid, as DC Studios already confirmed the villain for the animated Mister Miracle series. Writer Tom King previously revealed that Darkseid has been officially cast for the show. The series adapts King and Mitch Gerads’ acclaimed 12-issue comic run featuring Scott Free.
The identity of the second character remains less clear, though Ultraman stands out as a strong possibility. The Superman movie left Ultraman’s fate ambiguous after the Man of Steel’s clone was sucked into a black hole. Many fans have speculated that this setup could lead to a Crime Syndicate adaptation in a future DCU project.
Several other candidates from the fan’s list appear far less likely to arrive anytime soon. Black Adam seems improbable given the character’s association with the poorly received DCEU film. Doomsday has also seen heavy live-action use across multiple projects over the past decade. General Zod featured prominently in both Man of Steel and The Flash, making an immediate return unlikely.
Gunn’s DC reboot operates within a continuity where many superheroes and villains already exist in the world. The franchise’s Chapter 1, titled “Gods and Monsters,” continues expanding this summer with Supergirl arriving on June 26.
HBO’s Lanterns premieres on August 16, and Clayface reaches theaters on October 23.
