Netflix Is Losing Jurassic World Rebirth Director’s Underrated Sci-Fi Movie
The Creator, the overlooked science fiction thriller directed by Gareth Edwards before Jurassic World Rebirth, is preparing to leave Netflix soon. The futuristic drama quietly developed a strong following following its release. Now, it is scheduled to depart the platform in the coming months.
The Creator leaves Netflix in June
Gareth Edwards’ 2023 sci-fi thriller is set to leave the streaming platform next month.
According to What’s On Netflix, The Creator will be removed from Netflix on June 20, 2026, giving subscribers a limited time to stream it before its departure.
The film was released in North America on September 29, 2023. The story takes place in a future where artificial intelligence becomes the center of a global war after a catastrophic nuclear explosion devastates Los Angeles. In response, the United States bans AI technology completely and launches a military campaign against machines, while New Asia continues allowing humans and AI to live together peacefully.
Amid the conflict, former special forces operative Joshua Taylor, portrayed by John David Washington, is assigned to locate and eliminate “The Creator,” the mysterious figure responsible for developing advanced AI technology powerful enough to change the outcome of the conflict. However, the mission changes completely after Joshua discovers that the feared weapon is actually a child with highly advanced artificial intelligence abilities.
The movie also features Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Alpha-O, Gemma Chan as Maya Fey, Allison Janney as Colonel Howell, Ken Watanabe as Harun, and Sturgill Simpson as Drew, among others.
On Rotten Tomatoes, The Creator currently holds a 67 percent critics’ score based on 324 reviews. Meanwhile, the audience has given it a 75 percent rating.
Meanwhile, Joshua Ryan of FandomWire wrote in his review, “The Creator stands on its own through the fantastic performances of its cast, the beautiful cinematography, and Edwards’ clear understanding of what makes for an engrossing science-fiction epic.”
