Curry Barker Expands the Obsession Universe With Anything but Ghosts

Director Curry Barker’s breakout film, Obsession, now in theaters, shares a universe with his upcoming project, Anything but Ghosts. He has already dropped a clue about it.

Curry Barker teases Obsession and his next movie Anything but Ghosts are set in same universe

During a post-screening Q&A, Barker revealed that his follow-up movie, Anything but Ghosts, directly references the events of Obsession. Specifically, he hinted at a callback to Nikki’s fate, which saw her kill two of their friends, Sarah (Megan Lawless) and Ian (Cooper Tomlinson), after Bear’s (Michael Johnston) spell broke when he took his own life.

“There’s like a news article thing on the next movie where you hear a news anchor talking about a triple homicide [by] a woman,” Barker told the audience.

Anything but Ghosts, Barker’s collaboration with Focus Features and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, is about two con artists posing as ghost hunters who come across a genuine dark entity. Barker co-wrote the film with Cooper Tomlinson and also directs and stars in it alongside his longtime comedic partner. The cast includes Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Violet McGraw.

Barker’s American supernatural horror Obsession follows Baron “Bear” Bailey (Michael Johnston), a music store employee who uses a supernatural toy to make his childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette) fall in love with him. However, the consequences of this dark magic spiral into horror, ending in tragedy. The film premiered on May 15, 2026, via Focus Features, getting rave reviews and outperforming Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu at the box office.

With Obsession already making an impact at the box office, Barker appears to be laying the groundwork for something much larger — one universe, multiple horror stories, and a directorial voice that audiences are paying close attention to.

As of now, Anything but Ghosts is currently in post-production and does not have an official theatrical or streaming release date.
