Citizen Vigilante unveils trailer and poster

A press release confirmed that Citizen Vigilante has unveiled its first official trailer and poster ahead of its North American release.

Quiver Distribution also released the trailer on YouTube. The distributor will launch the action-thriller on all major digital and streaming platforms on June 19, 2026.

The film stars Golden Globe nominee Armie Hammer and Costas Mandylor from the Saw franchise. Internationally recognized filmmaker Uwe Boll directs and produces the project through Event Film in association with Borvel Film.

The story follows Sanders, a wealthy American businessman living in Zagreb who inherited a massive real estate empire. Intelligent, isolated and emotionally scarred, Sanders transforms into a feared underground vigilante. He targets violent criminals, rapists and corrupt judges who escaped meaningful punishment through the legal system.

As his brutal campaign gains traction online, Sanders becomes both a wanted criminal and an unlikely public hero. Interpol Chief Henry, played by Mandylor, believes Sanders represents a dangerous threat to society. He launches an aggressive international pursuit to stop Sanders before his influence spirals out of control.

Boll has described the film as “an action film inspired by real events, based on real cases and a commentary about injustice.” The project has already sparked controversy internationally before its North American debut. Boll publicly claimed Germany’s FSK ratings board effectively blocked the film from release in the country. The situation has fueled a broader debate surrounding censorship, artistic freedom and the film’s themes of vigilantism.

The project was originally announced with the title The Dark Knight. Warner Bros. quickly issued a cease and desist order over the name. Boll addressed the situation on his podcast, stating that DC and Warner contacted him directly about the title conflict.

Boll has directed more than 35 films throughout an international career spanning decades. His cult filmography includes Postal, the Rampage trilogy, Assault on Wall Street and Alone in the Dark.
