Insidious is leaving HBO Max next month
Insidious, one of the most popular supernatural horror films of the 2010s, is leaving HBO Max next month. The horror thriller is currently scheduled to depart the streaming platform on June 1, 2026. This gives viewers limited time to revisit the film before its removal.
Directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, the film was released theatrically in April 2011. It later became a major commercial success. The popularity of the original movie eventually led to multiple sequels and prequel films. This turned Insidious into a long-running horror franchise.
The story follows Josh and Renai Lambert, a couple who move into a new house with their children, hoping for a fresh start. However, their lives are disrupted after their son Dalton suddenly falls into an unexplained coma. As the family struggles to understand what happened, disturbing paranormal events begin taking place inside the home, leading them to believe something supernatural may be connected to Dalton’s condition.
As the terrifying events continue escalating, the Lamberts seek help from paranormal investigator Elise Rainier. They soon discover that Dalton’s condition is connected to a dangerous spiritual realm known as “The Further.” The horror film stars Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert and Rose Byrne as Renai Lambert.
Other cast members include Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, Ty Simpkins as Dalton Lambert, Barbara Hershey as Lorraine Lambert, and Leigh Whannell as Specs, among others. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a 66% critics’ score based on 175 reviews. Meanwhile, audiences have given it a 62% rating.
