Superman & Batman Team-up Movie Before Batman V Superman Heads to HBO Max

A 2010 Superman and Batman animated team-up movie that came out six years before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will soon arrive on HBO Max. It features the voice of the late Kevin Conroy, whose portrayal of Batman became iconic among fans. The movie follows the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight as they confront one of DC’s most dangerous villains.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse to stream on HBO Max

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will arrive on HBO Max on Monday, June 1, 2026, according to the streamer’s schedule.

Lauren Montgomery directed the movie with a story by Tab Murphy. It is part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies lineup. The story is based on “The Supergirl from Krypton” arc from the Superman/Batman comic book series, written by Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse follows the titular heroes after Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, crash-lands on Earth. While Batman remains vigilant about her, Superman tries to help her adjust to humanity. However, Wonder Woman takes Kara to Themyscira for training. Meanwhile, on Apokolips, Darkseid prepares to send his army to kidnap Kara so that he can brainwash her and turn her into the leader of the Female Furies.

The movie’s voice cast includes Kevin Conroy as Batman, Andre Braugher as Darkseid, Tim Daly as Superman, Summer Glau as Kara Zor-El, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Julianne Grossman as Big Barda, and Ed Asner as Granny Goodness, among others.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse was not released in movie theatres. Instead, it was released worldwide directly to home media formats. Warner Home Video handled its distribution, releasing it on DVD and Blu-ray on September 28, 2010. Reportedly, the movie made $8.8 million in sales, with $6.9 million from DVD sales and $1.9 million from Blu-ray.

In terms of ratings, the movie received extremely divisive reviews. While critics gave it an average score of 20%, the audience rated it favorable 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. The trend is similar on Metacritic, where the critics’ score is 44, and the audience score sits at 6.9.
