Emily Blunt Explains Her Role in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Original’ Disclosure Day Sci-Fi Story
The release of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day is on the horizon, and Emily Blunt has now revealed new details about her character. The actress, who leads the cast of the upcoming film, even delved into key plotlines and complex themes.

Blunt plays Margaret, a meteorologist who gains unexplained abilities and finds herself at the center of a global conspiracy. In a recently released featurette, she makes it clear that Disclosure Day is not borrowing from familiar sci-fi playbooks.
“This film is such an original science fiction story about the idea of non-human life existing on other worlds. That we are not alone,” she said. “Margaret is suddenly imbued with these abilities she’s never had before. [She] and Daniel, they are the holders of this world-changing secret.”
The stakes, she explains, are enormous. “They are being hunted down by the highest form of a shadowy government who are trying to stop them from revealing this truth to the world. These new extraordinary gifts that have been bestowed upon them challenge the characters’ values and their beliefs in what’s possible.”
The second official trailer, released in March, hinted at the scale of what Spielberg has built. The director made a recent appearance at CinemaCon in April, where a first look revealed further details, including the film’s first look at its alien life form.
Furthermore, another teaser showed Blunt’s character forced to speak in an incomprehensible language during a live weather broadcast. Another character then claims to be able to understand what she’s saying. The cast also includes Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.
With the premiere just weeks away, Disclosure Day itself is a distinct entry in Spielberg’s legendary filmography. Blunt’s insights point to a narrative built on mystery, pursuit, and the terrifying weight of forbidden knowledge. The upcoming movie is releasing on June 12, 2026.
