Superman’s Euphoria Cameo Gets Clarification From James Gunn
DC Studios co-chair James Gunn has responded to a Superman cameo in HBO’s Euphoria. The moment happened in Season 3 Episode 7 of the ongoing series. Euphoria, which streams on HBO Max under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, has already had meta cameos this season, along with its star-studded cast, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and more.

The Easter egg in question appears during a scene between Sharon Stone’s character, Patty Lance, and a network executive. In the background, a David Corenswet Superman statue stands clearly visible, establishing the location as Gunn’s actual DC Studios workspace.
James Gunn confirmed the office’s inclusion while responding to podcast host Brandon Davis on Threads. The filmmaker shared the space belongs jointly to him and fellow DC Studios head Peter Safran, explaining, “It’s technically both of ours. I’m just never there.”
The placement aligns neatly with Howard’s Hollywood industry trajectory. Rather than functioning as disconnected product placement, the reference works as the character’s storyline while rewarding attentive viewers with a glimpse behind the curtain of Hollywood’s superhero machinery.
This Superman cameo adds to another DC superhero cameo earlier in the season. The premiere episode featured director Eli Roth wearing a Batman mask while riding as a passenger in Rue’s Uber. Roth’s character made a brooding commentary about crime in Los Angeles before exiting to join street performers costumed as Robin and Wonder Woman along a Hollywood boulevard.
Furthermore, the reference lands during a period of heightened hype for DC properties. The studio’s Superman movie was a big hit, and now a Milly Alcock-led Supergirl is releasing soon in cinemas. The cameo, subtle as it is, reflects the imprint these characters maintain on popular culture.
The Euphoria season finale will release this Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
