Shrek 6 Gets Strong Tease from Mike Myers

The Shrek franchise may not be ending anytime soon. While fans of the iconic character are eagerly awaiting the release of Shrek 5 next year, Mike Myers is now teasing that Shrek 6 may also be a thing.

DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek franchise, which is based on William Steig’s 1990 picture book, began in 2001 with the animated film directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. That was followed by Shrek 2 in 2004, Shrek the Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010. There were also two Puss in Boots spin-off movies — 2001’s Puss in Boots and 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish — as well as some short films, television specials, and more.

Shrek 5 is currently scheduled to be released next summer. Zendaya is voicing Shrek and Fiona’s Daughter, Felicia, in the film, while Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo are voicing the ogres’ two sons, Fergus and Farkle.

What did Mike Myers say about Shrek 6?

Per World of Reel, Dana Carvey said on his Fly on the Wall podcast that he recently spoke to Myers about the future of the Shrek franchise. Carvey and Myers famously both starred in the Wayne’s World films together.

According to Carvey, Myers told him that they’re “doing two more” Shrek movies. This suggests that plans for Shrek 6 are already underway.

This has not been confirmed by DreamWorks or Universal Pictures at this time, meaning this shouldn’t be taken as definitive confirmation that Shrek 6 is happening. There’s been much talk about doing a spin-off movie revolving around Eddie Murphy’s Donkey character, so it’s possible that this is what Myers/Carvey were referring to.

With Murphy, Myers, and Cameron Diaz all returning, Shrek 5 is dated for June 30, 2027. Plot details for the movie remain under wraps at this time.
