Michael Bay to Direct War Rescue Movie Inspired by True Events
Director Michael Bay has signed on to helm a new war movie, which will be based on a recent U.S. military rescue operation. Bay is no stranger to the genre as he previously directed 2001’s Pearl Harbor and 2016’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
What do we know about Michael Bay’s newest war movie?
According to Deadline, Bay’s newest war movie will chronicle the heroic true story about the rescue mission that successfully saved two pilots from a downed U.S. Air Force plane in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The daring rescue mission happened in April during Operation Epic Fury. Bay has teamed up with Universal Pictures to develop the movie. The screenplay will be written by Scott Gardenhour, based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s upcoming 2027 novel about the incident for HarperCollins. The project will be produced by Bay, Gardenhour, and Erwin Stoff, who all previously worked together on 13 Hours.
“I’ve had an amazing partnership over my 30-year career working with the Department of War and amazing U.S. military members. In my film 13 Hours, no rescue force answered the call for help,” Bay said in a statement. “This film is about everyone who answered the call in one of the most complex, intricate, and high-stakes operations in recent history. It celebrates the true heroism and unwavering dedication of our service members.”
At the moment, Bay is also working on multiple projects, including producing a live-action Skibidi Toilet movie and A Quiet Place Part III. Previous reports also suggested that he might be returning to the Transformers franchise to direct a new installment. Over a year ago, it was revealed that he’s collaborating with Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney on the upcoming live-action film adaptation of OutRun, based on one of Sega‘s popular arcade video game series.
