Natalie Portman Thriller With Jurassic World Star Lands Huge Amazon Deal

Natalie Portman‘s new psychological thriller movie will be backed by Amazon. Directed by Mimi Cave, the movie also features an acclaimed Jurassic World star, Jonathan Bailey.

Natalie Portman’s Pumping Black secures major Amazon deal at Cannes market

Amazon has grabbed the international rights for Portman and Bailey’s thriller movie Pumping Black, reports Deadline. The story of this upcoming project is set in the cutthroat world of professional cycling and is heavily influenced by acclaimed movies from the past, such as Whiplash and Black Swan.

The official synopsis reads: “cyclist Taylor Mace, who at 35 years old is finding himself ageing out of the sport. He is taken under the wing of Andrea Lathe, a doctor driven by her own thirst for victory and power. As the race to the Tour de France progresses, Taylor must take increasingly dark measures to protect his secret.”

Pumping Black’s director, Cave, is known for the 2022 horror movie, Fresh, featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. Cave also made 2025’s comedy-mystery film Holland. She will direct the upcoming film from a screenplay written by Haley Hope Bartels.

Portman was recently seen in 2025’s heist-adventure, Fountain of Youth. She also produced and voice-acted in Arco, an Oscar-nominated animated movie from last year. The actress was also featured in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake (2024) and May December (2023). Meanwhile, Bailey’s most recent notable projects include the 2025 box office hits like Jurassic World Rebirth and Wicked: For Good.

Pumping Black has Stacey Sher as the producer alongside Sébastien Raybaud, Portman, and Sophie Mas. Production is set to begin this fall. Expressing huge excitement for the project, Sher previously said, “Haley’s script immediately pulled us into a visceral, psychological world that feels both thrilling and completely original.”

The movie is yet to receive an official release date window.
