Ryan Gosling’s Sci-Fi Movie Is Beating Avatar 3 on Digital Streaming
Ryan Gosling’s sci-fi blockbuster just sent Avatar back to Pandora on the digital charts. The film’s premium digital dominance adds to its already massive theatrical run worldwide.
Project Hail Mary is doing extremely well on digital streaming
Project Hail Mary currently sits at No. 1 on the iTunes Top Movies chart, according to PopVortex. The film is available to rent for $19.99 or purchase for $24.99 on the platform as a premium digital release.
Beyond its digital success, the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed sci-fi epic ranks as the second-highest-grossing movie of 2026 worldwide. It trails only The Super Mario Bros Galaxy Movie at the global box office, per Box Office Mojo. The film has earned a strong critical and commercial reception since its March 20, 2026, theatrical release.
The story follows science teacher Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of his identity. As his recollection returns, he uncovers his mission to solve the mystery behind a substance killing the sun. Amazon MGM holds North American distribution rights for the film.
As a result, the movie could eventually land on MGM+ or Prime Video for streaming, though no date has been confirmed. A DVD or Blu-ray release also remains unannounced at this stage. For now, the film’s premium video-on-demand window is currently its only home viewing option.
Meanwhile, merchandise tied to the film has already gained significant traction in the market. A LEGO set based on the Hail Mary ship and a plush toy of the character Rocky have drawn attention. A new VR game featuring an original story from author Andy Weir is also in development.
The film’s commercial performance has already sparked early franchise discussions around expanding the property. Reports indicate conversations are underway about building Project Hail Mary beyond a single film. The movie continues to perform strongly across both theatrical and premium digital platforms worldwide.
