Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Movie Sequel Gets Exciting Update
Peter Jackson has shared massive news for fans of a popular comic book character who hasn’t appeared on the big screen in over a decade. According to a promising update from The Lord of the Rings director, it may finally be time for the character’s comeback with a new adventure.
Peter Jackson is writing a new Tintin movie
Speaking at the Rendezvous session at the Cannes Film Festival, Peter Jackson revealed that he’s actually working on a new Tintin movie, according to Deadline. The director said, “I’ve been working with Fran (Walsh) on a new Tintin script.”
Jackson mentioned that before The Adventures of Tintin came out in 2011, he had a deal with Steven Spielberg. “The deal was Steven directs one, and I direct another,” he said. Back then, Jackson co-produced that movie. “Steven did his film, then for 15 years I haven’t made mine. I feel very awkward about that.”
The director assured that the new Tintin movie is “an active real thing, and I’m getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it.”
Meanwhile, he also spoke about The Lord of the Rings franchise, which will see a new movie soon. Unlike the past three films, he won’t direct the next one, titled The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum. Instead, Andy Serkis will step into the director’s chair while also reprising his iconic role of Gollum from the previous trilogy.
When asked why he’s not directing the new installment, Jackson answered, “I could have directed it, but I thought, I’ve done that.”
Teasing crucial details for LOTR: Hunt for Gollum’s story, the three-time Oscar winner added, “It’s an internal story about Gollum’s psychology and addiction. It’s a personal story to Gollum. Andy knows this guy better than anybody. I didn’t think about me. The more exiting version of this movie is if Any Serkis made it.”
The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum is set to release next year.
