The upcoming Broadway adaptation of Paranormal Activity finally has a premiere date. Producer Jason Blum is also joining the team behind the stage show’s strictly limited run.
A Broadway adaptation of Paranormal Activity gets premiere date
Paranormal Activity will haunt Broadway this fall with a strictly limited 20-week engagement. The stage adaptation begins performances on Friday, August 14, at the August Wilson Theatre, Deadline reports. The production officially opens on Tuesday, September 15.
Written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett, the show follows an original story. A new couple, James and Lou, move from Chicago to London to escape their past. The production earned a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play this year. It previously played sold-out runs in London’s West End, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
A pre-Broadway engagement in Boston at the Emerson Colonial Theatre runs from July 11 through July 30. Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, joins the producing team for the Broadway run. Blumhouse originally produced the Paranormal Activity film franchise.
Barrett said, “New York is my home away from home. I fell in love with the city when making Sleep No More fifteen years ago, and always marveled at the way audiences engaged with the show. Having seen the incredible responses to Paranormal as it has toured the US, I’m beyond excited that it will be coming to Broadway and cannot wait to see how New Yorkers react.”
Holloway added, “That Paranormal Activity has earned the chance to trouble the sleep of Broadway audiences, that they’ll be immersed in the waking nightmare we’ve had the privilege to make, is the stuff of dreams.”
The creative team features scenic and costume design by Fly Davis and illusions design by Chris Fisher. Gareth Fry handles sound design, while Luke Halls leads video and projections design. Simon Friend, Hanna Osmolska and Ken Davenport serve among the producers. Paramount has also set a new film installment for May 2027.
