Robin Williams’ $1.3B Trilogy Is Leaving Netflix
An incredibly popular fantasy comedy trilogy starring the late Robin Williams is set to exit Netflix’s streaming catalog very soon. Cumulatively, the trilogy has surpassed $1.3 billion at the global box office.
All three Night at the Museum movies are leaving Netflix
All three films — Night at the Museum, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb — are exiting Netflix on Monday, June 1, 2026.
The films are based on Milan Trenc’s 1993 children’s picture book of the same name. Meanwhile, Shawn Levy (director of Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things) helmed all three films.
Night at the Museum centers on Larry Daley, a struggling father who becomes a night guard at the Museum of Natural History in New York. Due to an ancient Egyptian tablet, all exhibits in the museum, from a fossilized Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton to historical figures like Theodore Roosevelt, come alive every night.
Larry has one job: keeping everyone inside the museum, or else they turn to dust at the first touch of the sunrise. However, things are not as it seems. In the sequels, Larry travels to other museums, including the Smithsonian Institution and the British Museum, leading to chaotic adventures.
Across the trilogy, the films’ cast features Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, Rami Malek, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson, Carla Gugino, Jake Cherry, Amy Adams, Bill Hader, Jon Bernthal, and Rebel Wilson, among others.
The original film, Night at the Museum, premiered on December 22, 2006. It received a critic’s score of 42% and a user score of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The subsequent entries followed on May 22, 2009, and December 19, 2014, respectively. The second film, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, holds 43% critics score and 47% user score. Additionally, the film also inspired a video game of the same name in 2009. The game currently has a Metacritic score of 50. Meanwhile, the final film, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, has a slightly better score, with a 48% critics’ score and 57% user score.
The franchise also spawned an animated film, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again, in 2022. It was released directly on Disney+.
