1 of Michael Jackson Movie’s Best Moments Is Easily Missed
The Michael Jackson movie is out in theaters now, and it’s a certified hit. But as it continues to do well at the box office, fans are beginning to notice one surprise moment that is very easy to miss upon first viewings.
The movie, which follows Michael Jackson’s rise to superstardom in the world of music and pop culture, features a litany of stars in the film. However, one of them acts as a very small cameo role, and is so well disguised that fans didn’t spot him at first.
Mike Myers, of Austin Powers, Shrek, and Saturday Night Live fame, appears in the movie as Walter Yetnikoff, the president of CBS Records. His scene involves Jackson and his attorney John Branca (Miles Teller) demanding that MTV begin playing Jackson’s music videos.
What makes Mike Myers’ Michael cameo so special?
Although the cameo is quick to miss, it’s an awesome inclusion for the movie. Myers is mostly unrecognizable in the role, as he’s heavily dolled up in makeup and prosthetics. It’s to the point where only seeing his name in the credits would clue an average audience member in on his role.
Still though, Myers’ scene is a crucial one. Yetnikoff strongarms MTV into beginning to play Michael Jackson’s music videos, before watching the legend leave into a sea of people in New York City.
For Myers, it was a surprise return to the screen after some time away. After becoming a legend in the world of comedy and acting, Myers has more or less stepped away from that aspect of his career in recent years.
He’s appeared in a handful of cameo roles in movies, with his last being in 2022’s Amsterdam. While he is set to reprise his role as Shrek in Shrek 5, Myers has taken to taking some big breaks in between roles in movies, so it’s a big deal that he showed up in the Michael Jackson project. Whether or not he shows up in the sequel is unknown, but should he not, it is nice to have at least seen Myers pop up again in another quirky and unique role.
