Scarlett Johansson’s New Movie Is Her Most Exciting Role in Years

Scarlett Johansson is set to have a busy couple of years as she prepares to star in a number of high-profile films. One of her newest roles, however, will see her star in an upcoming Ari Aster movie.

Johansson will join Aster in his upcoming movie, Scapegoat. Much like his past films, Aster will write and direct the project, reuniting with A24, the studio that has released his past four films.

Currently, no other information about the movie is available, so it’s unclear who else will be appearing in it. Deadline noted that Johansson was Aster’s “top choice” to star in the movie, though, and despite her busy schedule, it seems like Johansson is ready to work with the director. This could make for her most exciting movie in years.

Scarlett Johansson stepping back into more serious roles is a great thing

For Johansson, this return to more serious acting roles will likely be one of the more exciting things she’s done both in terms of personal achievement and how fans watch her movies. Over the past 10+ years or so, Johansson has mainly been known for her role in the MCU as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.

Outside of the MCU, Johansson has also been a mainstay in a number of other high-profile franchises like the Jurassic World franchise, Transformers, and more. Of course, Johansson has also starred in a number of other “serious” movies, in particular Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme and Asteroid City, but her roles throughout recent history have leaned more toward the action and established IP genres.

With Ari Aster’s upcoming movie, as well as appearances in Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist movie, Paper Tiger, and Ray Gunn, Johansson seems to be going back to her roots, in a sense. The next two years will see a litany of movies not based on a franchise (excluding The Exorcist) and presumably see Johansson in much more serious roles, which will undoubtedly be much more exciting to see, as an actor of her caliber is always fun to watch outside of the world of superheroes and action movies.
