Nicolas Cage’s 4% RT Flop Action Movie Is Huge Streaming Success

An action thriller led by Nicolas Cage is seeing a surprising surge in viewership years after its release. Despite an underwhelming reception at the time of its release, the film has climbed the charts on Starz, where it is currently among the most-watched movies. The unexpected performance highlights a renewed audience interest in the film beyond its original theatrical release.

211 ranks high on Starz movie charts

Despite its poor critical response, Nicolas Cage’s action film 211 is finding unexpected success on streaming.

The film is currently performing well on Starz, where it has climbed into the platform’s most-watched movies. According to FlixPatrol, 211 ranked No. 2 on the Top 10 movies list on Starz in the United States on May 4, 2026. It has outperformed several notable films, including Good Fortune, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, The Man in the White Van, and Turbulence, among others.

Directed by York Shackleton and written by John Rebus, 211 was released on June 8, 2018. It draws inspiration from a real-life police incident.

The film follows Officer Mike Chandler, played by Nicolas Cage, and his partner Steve MacAvoy. They are out on a routine patrol when they are suddenly caught in a violent bank robbery. Joined by a civilian ride-along, the officers find themselves facing a group of heavily armed former mercenaries. With limited backup and resources, they are quickly overwhelmed and forced into a dangerous confrontation.

Alongside Cage, the film features Dwayne Cameron as Steve MacAvoy, Alexandra Dinu as Agent Rossi, Michael Rainey Jr. as Kenny Ralston, Sophie Skelton as Lisa MacAvoy, and Shari Watson as Shawnee Ralston among others.

211 was poorly received by critics. It holds a 4% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 24 reviews. Meanwhile, audience scores on the Popcornmeter remain similarly low at 12%.
