Attack on Titan Returns for a Theatrical Rerelease, Date Set
Crunchyroll is bringing Attack on Titan back to the big screen. The anime streamer has locked in a theatrical rerelease of the series finale for a one-night-only event across the United States and Canada.
Crunchyroll sets theatrical rerelease date for Attack on Titan: The Last Attack
Crunchyroll will screen Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, a compilation film that merges The Final Chapters Special 1 and Special 2 into a single feature on May 18, 2026. The company confirmed that U.S. audiences can purchase tickets through Fandango, while Canadian fans can book seats via Cineplex. A new 4K visual upgrade sharpens the existing footage beyond what viewers currently stream on Crunchyroll.
The film does more than stitch together previously released material. It includes an exclusive post-credits scene that ends the story in an alternate universe based on Hajime Isayama’s School Castes concept. This sequence shows the Survey Corps members enjoying normal, peaceful lives without Titans.
The addition contrasts with the original ending, which angered many fans by depicting Paradis Island crumbling in a future war during the credits. That epilogue effectively erased Eren Yeager’s sacrifices. The new scene gives a lighter resolution than the main timeline could ever offer.
After all, when the finale originally aired in 2023, it did split the fanbase. Despite the divide, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack still stands as one of the most-watched and highest-rated conclusions in anime history. Studio MAPPA handled the animation for the final chapters, and the theatrical release lets audiences experience the Rumbling at a scale that home viewing cannot match.
The official synopsis is: “Back on the big screen for Crunchyroll Anime Nights in an awesome new 4k version! Eren’s apocalyptic rumbling begins, unleashing an unstoppable wave of Colossal Titans marching to crush the world. Having uncovered Paradis’s brutal history and the world’s hatred for Eldians, he commits to eliminating all threats. Now, former allies and enemies unite in desperation for one final mission — to stop him before nothing remains.”
Crunchyroll is billing the May 18 screening as the franchise’s final theatrical bow.
