Friends Star’s $527M Comedy Beats Alan Ritchson Movie in Streaming Wars

A 2017 DreamWorks film featuring the voice of a Friends star has seen a resurgence on streaming, beating an Alan Ritchson movie. Despite being released nine years ago and receiving a less-than-favorable reception, the former has managed to make its way up on streaming charts this week.

The Boss Baby tops Peacock streaming charts

The Boss Baby is currently the #1 film on Peacock’s Top 10 list in the United States, according to FlixPatrol’s data for May 4, 2026. It features the voice of Lisa Kudrow, known for playing Phoebe Buffay on Friends.

With its current ranking, The Boss Baby has outperformed Alan Ritchson’s 2024 drama, Ordinary Angels, which is #2. It has also overtaken last year’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, now at #3. Interestingly, the list also includes several other older animated films. Bee Movie ranks #4, Mr. Peabody & Sherman #5, and The Secret Life of Pets #8.

The Boss Baby is loosely based on Marla Frazee’s 2010 picture book of the same name. Tom McGrath directed the film based on a story by Michael McCullers.

The story centers on the titular character, who appears to be an ordinary baby suit, but turns out to be an undercover agent from Baby Corp. While he tries to uncover the truth behind humans’ decreasing love for babies in favor of puppies, the Boss Baby’s new brother, Tim, tries to blow his cover. Eventually, Tim learns the truth and teams up with him.

The film’s voice cast includes Lisa Kudrow as Janice, Alec Baldwin as the Boss Baby, Miles Bakshi as Tim, Tobey Maguire as Adult Tim/narrator, Steve Buscemi as Francis, and Jimmy Kimmel as Ted, among others.

20th Century Fox took charge of the film’s distribution and released it on March 31, 2017, in the United States. The film did not fare well with either the critics or moviegoers. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 53% Tomatometer score and a 51% Popcornmeter score. Commercially, it went on to earn an impressive $527.9 million from global markets against a reported $125 million budget.

The success of the film led to a sequel, The Boss Baby: Family Business, in 2021. It was followed by two Netflix series, two short films, and an interactive special. Although there have been rumors about a third Boss Baby feature film, it has yet to materialize.
