Avengers: Doomsday To Have 1 Thing in Common With Endgame, Says Star
A star dropped a tantalizing hint about Avengers: Doomsday that links the upcoming blockbuster to one of the MCU’s most beloved chapters. The actor’s comments suggest the Russo Brothers are tapping into a familiar emotional playbook for Loki’s highly anticipated return.
‘Magnificent’ Avengers: Doomsday defied all of Tom Hiddleston’s expectations
Tom Hiddleston hyped up his return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday during a recent interview with The River. The actor called the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster “magnificent” and “extraordinary” while teasing that it surpassed his own expectations. Joe and Anthony Russo direct the film, which arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Hiddleston kept details close to his chest when asked about Loki’s role in the movie. He joked that sharing specifics would bring “consequences” for him before praising the project’s ambition. “All I can tell you is that Avengers: Doomsday is going to be magnificent and will defy all your expectations,” Hiddleston said. He continued: “It defied mine when I read the film. I thought ‘this is going to be extraordinary.'”
The British actor previously described the screenplay as “monumental” in comments made towards the end of last year. He also called “the center of the story” absolutely brilliant during that earlier round of press. Hiddleston first portrayed Loki in 2011’s Thor and reprised the role across multiple MCU entries. His Disney+ series Loki ran for two seasons and concluded with the character becoming the God of Stories.
Hiddleston acknowledged during the interview that Loki’s story had reached a natural conclusion after Loki season 2. He explained the character’s arc without revealing how Doomsday picks up the thread. “In order to become someone different, whose story had a different ending, he had to make peace with the things he did,” Hiddleston said. “It gave him the power of authorship over his own story.”
Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, also teased the brothers’ reunion in the film. Hemsworth called Doomsday “incredibly emotional” and stated that the Russo Brothers’ work will “blow you away.”
