Peacock Adds Jake Gyllenhaal & Isabela Merced’s Divisive Adventure Movie Today

Jake Gyllenhaal‘s divisive adventure movie from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation has finally found a new streaming home.

Beginning today, 2021’s Spirit Untamed is now available to stream on Peacock. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the star-studded animated film was still a hit among moviegoers, as it scored a high Popcornmeter rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What do we know about Jake Gyllenhaal’s Spirit Untamed movie?

2021’s animated adventure film Spirit Untamed served as a soft reboot of DreamWorks Animation’s critically acclaimed 2002 movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Besides Gyllenhaal, the movie also featured the voices of Isabela Merced as Lucky, Marsai Martin as Pru, Mckenna Grace as Abigail, Walton Goggins as Hendricks, Andre Braugher as Al Granger, Julianne Moore as Cora, Eiza González as Milagro, and more.

Elaine Bogan and Ennio Torresan directed the film, with Aury Wallington and Kristin Hahn writing the screenplay. The movie was also based on the characters featured in the Netflix spin-off series Spirit Riding Free. It was produced by Karen Foster. During its theatrical run, it had a poor box office performance, grossing only over $42 million against its reported budget of around $30 million.

“Lucky Prescott never really knew her late mother, Milagro Navarro, a fearless horse-riding stunt performer from Miradero, a small town on the edge of the wide-open frontier. Like her mother, Lucky isn’t exactly a fan of rules and restrictions, which has caused her Aunt Cora no small amount of worry. Lucky has grown up in an East Coast city under Cora’s watchful eye, but when Lucky presses her own luck with one too many risky escapades, Cora picks up stakes and moves them both back to Miradero with Lucky’s father,” reads the official synopsis.

“Lucky is decidedly unimpressed with the sleepy little town. She has a change of heart when she meets Spirit, a wild Mustang who shares her independent streak, and befriends two local horseback riders. When a heartless horse wrangler and his team plan to capture Spirit and his herd and auction them off to a life of captivity and hard labor, Lucky enlists her new friends and bravely embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to rescue the horse who has given her freedom and a sense of purpose, and has helped Lucky discover a connection to her mother’s legacy and to her Mexican heritage that she never expected.”
