Super Mario Galaxy Movie 2 Release Date Possibly Set for Nintendo Movie
A release date for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie 2 may have been revealed.
Nintendo and Illumination’s Mario film franchise began in 2023 with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That film was followed by a sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, that is now playing in United States theaters. The voice cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Donald Glover as Yoshi.
Given that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already grossed approximately $832 million globally, fans are wondering what will come next for the franchise. There’s been some talk about there being another Mario movie, as well as a Donkey Kong spin-off, though what, exactly, comes next is not yet clear.
What is the possible release date for Super Mario Galaxy Movie 2?
As noticed on Twitter by @HumanKeanu39738, an untitled Illumination movie previously had an April 12, 2028, release date. Now, however, Universal Pictures International Spain has changed this title’s project to “Untitled Illumination/Nintendo Event Film.”
Since the project is still untitled at this point, there’s no official word on what this movie is — it could be the aforementioned Donkey Kong spin-off, or it could be more of a direct sequel to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There have also been rumors about other Mario spin-offs being in the works, whether it be a Daisy movie or a Starfox film, though nothing has been confirmed by Universal Pictures at this time.
Having said that, given that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is such a success, along with the fact that this greater Nintendo Cinematic Universe is what Nintendo and Illumination are partnering on at this time, it’s safe to assume that it’ll be something set in this universe.
