Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Crossover Sequel Movie Gets Exciting Update
The forthcoming Django Unchained sequel crossover movie has received an exciting update.
Django Unchained is a film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino that was released in 2012. Having been nominated for a handful of Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the movie stars Jamie Foxx as Django Freeman, Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz, Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin J. Candie, Kerry Washington as Broomhilda “Hildi” von Shaft, and Samuel L. Jackson as Stephen.
In 2014, Dynamite Entertainment launched a seven-issue comic co-written by Tarantino and Matt Wagner titled Django/Zorro. As the title implies, it serves as a crossover between Django Unchained and Zorro, who was played by Antonio Banderas in 1998’s The Mask of Zorro and 2005’s The Legend of Zorro.
There was talk of turning the Django/Zorro comic into a feature film; however, it seemed like the project had fallen apart by 2022 when it was reported that the movie was canceled.
What is the update on Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained crossover sequel movie?
Now, however, there’s hope for the Django/Zorro movie once again as, per Deadline, Sony Pictures is moving forward with the project and has tapped Brian Helgeland to write the script for the movie.
The article explains, “Tarantino directed that film but won’t helm this one, though I understand that this film has his blessing to move forward at Sony, where he’s expected to make his final film as director. The project is in early development with Helgeland scripting a new story that follows on from the comic series. In that comic, Django continued to track despicable prey as bounty hunter and developed a kinship with Don Diego de la Vega, who was played by Anthony Hopkins in the 1998 TriStar film The Mask of Zorro, where Don Diego passed on the Zorro mantle to Alejandro Murrieta (Antonio Banderas).”
Whether both Foxx and Banderas reprise their respective roles for Django/Zorro remains to be seen. The movie does not have a release date at this time.
