New Jason Statham Action Movie Gets Title as Actor Reteams With Popular Director

The Expendables star Jason Statham has officially found his next action movie, and it will reunite him with Suicide Squad director David Ayer. Titled John Doe, the new film marks the third time that Ayer will be directing Statham after 2024’s The Beekeeper and 2025’s A Working Man.

What do we know about Jason Statham’s new action movie?

According to Deadline, Statham will take on the role of the Man With No Name, a character who wakes up with no memory of his identity. Ayer will direct the movie from a screenplay by Ready Player One scribe Zak Penn. In addition to leading the cast, Statham is also serving as a producer through his Punch Palace Productions banner alongside Penn and Paul Schiff. Miramax has boarded the project as its producer and financier. Meanwhile, Black Bear is set to introduce the film at the upcoming Cannes market.

“The film follows a story of a man with no memory, no past, and no name — and only one face he can’t forget: Eliza. As fragments of his identity return, he discovers he was trained for a mission still in motion and is being hunted by the very people who sent him. With enemies closing in, John must choose between finishing what he started… or protecting the one thing that makes him feel human: love,” reads the initial synopsis.

Statham was most recently seen in the action thriller Shelter, which was directed by Ric Roman Waugh. Later this year, he will be starring opposite Annabelle Wallis in Lionsgate’s upcoming Mutiny movie. In 2027, he will be reprising his role as Adam Clay in the action sequel The Beekeeper 2, which is now directed by Timo Tjahjanto.

“We’re thrilled to be reuniting Jason and David on John Doe, powered by Zak Penn’s sharp, propulsive script. With wildly inventive action and modern themes that will resonate with a global audience, this takes the Statham/Ayer collaboration to a new level,” Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman said in a statement.

Black Bear executive John Friedberg added, “Jason is a singular talent in the action genre who consistently delivers for his audience. David has also firmly established himself as one of the top action directors working today. Their previous collaborations rank among the most successful independent action movies in recent years, and we are thrilled to deliver their third movie together in John Doe.”
