Momentum is quietly building around John Wick 5 as fresh comments from Lionsgate signal real progress. While the studio is not rushing a release, the update suggests the franchise may not be done yet, with a new direction finally taking shape behind the scenes.

Lionsgate boss Adam Fogelson recently shared with Business Insider that a strong concept for the next chapter has been found. According to him, Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves have come up with an idea they feel is “really exciting.”

That is a key step, especially after earlier uncertainty about continuing the story. However, Fogelson made it clear there is no fixed timeline yet, as several stages still need to be completed before production moves forward.

Before the next installment arrives, Lionsgate plans to expand the universe with spin-offs. A film centered on Donnie Yen’s character Caine and an animated prequel are already in development.

These projects are expected to release first, helping to grow the franchise while the main storyline is still being shaped. “There are a lot of steps, so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it. But in terms of finding a core idea, they seem to have landed on something that they are excited about, and now we’ll see,” Fogelson explained.

The John Wick series has built a strong reputation over four films. Starting with John Wick, the franchise steadily grew massively in both scale and popularity. John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3, Parabellum expanded the world, while John Wick: Chapter 4 delivered the biggest action set pieces yet. Combined, the films have earned over $1 billion worldwide, showing consistent box office growth.

Critics have also responded well. The original film holds around 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Chapter 2 sits near 89%. Chapter 3 improved further with about 94%, and Chapter 4 reached roughly 94% as well. Fans often praise the series for its clean action choreography, world-building, and Reeves’ committed performance.

For now, there is no official release date for the fifth film. Still, with a clear idea now in place and the core team on board, the future of John Wick looks far from over.
