Jessica Jones Almost Returned to MCU Before Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Jessica Jones, played masterfully by Krysten Ritter, finally made her MCU return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 6, following a seven-year hiatus. However, according to the Breaking Bad alum, she could have reprised her role of the fan-favorite superhero much earlier, having entered discussions with Marvel regarding her comeback way back in 2023.

Krysten Ritter reveals plans for Jessica Jones’ Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 return

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ritter confirmed that she had talked about stepping into the shoes of Jessica Jones for Daredevil: Born Again Season 1.

“There was some talk about me appearing in the first season,” the 44-year-old actress noted. “I think it’s like two-and-a-half years ago that we first started hearing a whiff about it. So I was so excited. They were bringing back a lot of characters, and I was like, I wonder if I could bring back Jessica. I have everything ready. I’ll be ready. And then, lucky for me, they did bring Jessica back, and I’m so thrilled. I kept the secret for a long time. I was asked about it constantly, and I just had to come up with new excuses and, I don’t know, cute responses.”

Notably, Ritter returned as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 6, donning the mantle for the first time since her Netflix series ended in 2019. Having left her life as a PI behind, Jones now leads a quiet life in the suburbs with her daughter. However, when an attack orchestrated by Mr. Charles endangers her child’s safety, Jones finally steps out from the shadows and reunites with Matt Murdock.

Talking about her return in the sequel installment, Ritter said, “When I knew I was coming back for season 2, I was also filming Dexter [Resurrection] at the same time. So that was a fun little diversion because when I got to New York, everybody assumed I was doing Daredevil, and it really was a great way to throw everybody off the track. Little did they know I’d be going straight from Dexter to Daredevil.”

Jones’ revived saga will continue in Born Again Season 2’s seventh episode, which comes out on April 28.
