Stanley Tucci, who played Nigel in both The Devil Wears Prada and its long-awaited sequel, opened up about a potential third film, saying it needs to arrive much sooner than the second installment.

Tucci, now 65, said he would likely not be around for a third film if it took another 20 years for the project to materialize.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Tucci said about a potential The Devil Wears Prada 3, “I don’t think we can do it in another 20 years. We have to do it sooner than that, because I’ll be dead.”

“We believe in letting a lot of time sizzle between these movies,” Emily Blunt said to Tucci during the interview. Tucci confirmed earlier in the interview that he, Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Anne Hathaway made a pact not to return to the film unless all of them could do it. “There’s no point in doing it unless it’s all four of us,” Tucci said.

The Devil Wears Prada originally premiered at the LA Film Festival on June 22, 2006, to strong reviews. Alongside winning several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, the film has achieved cult status over the years.

The sequel began development in 2024, 18 years after the first film premiered. It premiered on April 20, 2026, in New York and will receive a wider theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
