Benedict Cumberbatch’s $1.9B Movie Is Dominating on Streaming

Benedict Cumberbatch’s $1.9 billion MCU film has cast its spell over the streaming charts, claiming the top spot in the U.S. Two other films from the franchise have made it to the Top 10 list ahead of the highly anticipated fourth installment.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is on top of Disney+ streaming charts

As of April 21, Spider-Man: No Way Home is the #1 film on the Disney+ Top 10 movies in the United States list, as per Flix Patrol. It rose to the top shortly after its release on the platform last week. It is followed by Spider-Man: Homecoming at #2 and Spider-Man: Far from Home at #5.

The growing trend appears to be in anticipation of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026. Furthermore, Spider-Noir premieres next month on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is a direct follow-up to Spider-Man: Far from Home, which ended on a cliffhanger after Mysterio revealed the titular superhero’s identity to the world. The third installment follows Peter as he deals with the chaos surrounding his dual life. Desperate to restore normalcy, he asks Doctor Strange to make everyone forget Spider-Man’s identity. However, the spell goes wrong, tearing open the multiverse and bringing some of the dangerous villains from other universes.

Jon Watts, who helmed the first two Spider-Man films, also directed the third film. Meanwhile, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers served as the lead writers. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire, all three reprising their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The rest of the returning cast includes Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Jon Favreau as Happy, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx as Max/Electro, Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus, and Marisa Tomei as May Parker, among others.

Sony Pictures Releasing handled the film’s distribution, releasing it on December 17, 2021. Upon release, it became an instant blockbuster, both commercially and critically. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a near-perfect user rating of 97%, while critics rated it slightly lower at 93%. It went on to gross a staggering $1.9 billion globally.
