Spider-Man’s 1st 2026 Appearance To Happen Before Brand New Day With a Twist
As the fans wait for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to be released later this year, another Spider-Man project will premiere on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video next month. This will be an eight-part live-action series that serves as a spin-off to the Spider-Verse films.
Brand New Day won’t be Spider-Man’s first live-action appearance in 2026
Spider-Noir will premiere on MGM+’s linear broadcast channel on Monday, May 25, in the United States. It will be followed by a global release on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, May 27 (via Amazon News). The series will mark the first live-action appearance of Spider-Man in 2026, ahead of the MCU’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s release on July 31.
The twist here is that the titular character won’t be called Spider-Man. Instead, he will simply be addressed as “The Spider.” Furthermore, subscribers can either view the series entirely in Black & White mode or in full color, dubbed “True Hue.” The streamer announced the details with a trailer earlier this year.
The events in Spider-Noir take place in an alternate-universe 1930s New York City. It centers on Ben Reilly, an aging, down-on-his-luck private detective and the city’s only superhero, The Spider. Soon, Reilly takes on a case involving crime boss Silvermane, who is the target of repeated assassination attempts. His investigation leads to darker conspiracies.
Nicolas Cage headlines the show as Ben Reilly/The Spider. He is joined by an impressive cast that includes Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane, Jack Huston as Flint Marko, Joe Massingill as Electro, and Karen Rodriguez as Janet, among others.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot developed the show. Moreover, they also serve as writers and executive producers alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Meanwhile, the Emmy-winning director Harry Bradbeer helmed the first two episodes. Sony Pictures Television also collaborated with Amazon’s MGM Studios to produce the show as an original series.
