Mark Wahlberg’s Trashed Comedy Beats The Boys in Streaming Wars

A new critically panned comedy movie starring Mark Wahlberg has managed to find its audience and garner strong viewership online. It has entered the top 10 list of Amazon Prime Video‘s most-viewed movies and TV shows, securing the top spot on streaming charts and surpassing The Boys, which released Season 5 recently.

Balls Up tops Prime Video’s overall streaming charts

Balls Up, featuring Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, is now the #1 movie on Amazon Prime Video as of April 20, 2026 (via FlixPatrol). Taking into account both films and television shows, The Boys, Season 5 of which is now streaming, has now moved to #2. However, the satirical superhero show is still #1 in the TV series category.

Moreover, Balls Up is still #1 on Amazon Prime Video when solely focusing on movies. It outperforms The Boss Baby (#2), Crime 101 (#3), The Running Man (#4), Mercy (#5), Sarah’s Oil (#6), Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (#7), The Lorax (#8), The Sandlot (#9), and Rory McIlroy: The Masters Wait (#10).

The reception towards Balls Up has been primarily negative. Critics have deemed it “unfunny” and a “disaster,” due to its reliance on “d— jokes.” Some even opined that Wahlberg was miscast in his role.

The poor reviews reflect in the scores on review aggregator websites. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an incredibly low approval rating of 28% rotten, based on 32 reviews, and a similarly low 26% audience score, drawn from over 100 ratings. Meanwhile, Metacritic has given it a poor Metascore of 34 and a user score of 3.7 — both denoting “generally unfavorable” reception.

Peter Farrelly, recognized for his work on Green Book and Dumb and Dumber, among other films, directed Balls Up. Meanwhile, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who worked on the Deadpool movies, co-wrote the script.
