Oscar Isaac, who has been a part of many of the big franchises in the past years, including Star Wars, recently discussed “Somehow, Palpatine returned,” the infamous line from The Rise of Skywalker. Oscar Isaac on how ‘somehow Palpatine returned’ line came to be
During a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, the Frankenstein star opened up on his experience in the Star Wars universe. He played the beloved Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in three movies.
After speaking about working on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Horowitz asked Oscar Isaac about how his now-infamous line, “Somehow, Palpatine has returned,” came to be. Notably, this particular line from The Rise of Skywalker received immense backlash from the fans of the franchise. It has also been widely criticized for being vague and lazy.
“Yeah, those were reshoots. We had to do reshoots,” Isaac said about its origin on Happy, Sad, Confused. “When I look at it now, I’m like, ‘The wig’s pretty good.’ I had already cut my hair and everything. Those are like surgical strikes where you come in and try to make sense of it all while they’re scrambling to get everything done. That line was a new addition right at the end.”
The 47-year-old added, “There was a lot of movement and flux throughout the whole process. Had you asked me at that moment if I thought that was going to be the one that everyone would remember… I wouldn’t have known. But hey man, I committed to the exasperation!”
Additionally, Oscar Isaac spoke about working on The Force Awakens. “My favorite part was the experience of doing the first one,” he stated. “It was so wild. There was so much excitement, and everything was new.”
The Golden Globe awardee continued, “The singularity of that thing was amazing; getting to meet JJ, becoming close with him, John, and Daisy, and reuniting with Adam because he had done Llewyn Davis with me. It was all just such an exciting moment.”
Meanwhile, there are numerous new Star Wars projects on the way, per reports. Perhaps fans will get more of Poe Dameron in the future.
