Charlize Theron Says AI Will Be Able to Do Timothée Chalamet’s Job in 10 years

Charlize Theron reacted to Timothée Chalamet’s earlier controversial remarks about ballet and opera. She stated that the two art forms deserve greater promotion and encouragement rather than dismissal. Theron added that while AI could potentially replace acting jobs, it could never replace someone dancing live on stage.

Charlize Theron reflects on Timothée Chalamet’s ‘ballet or opera’ comment

In an interview with The New York Times, Theron shared her stance on Chalamet‘s controversial remarks about ballet and opera. She said, “Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day. That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time.”

Theron further reflected on the possibility that acting could be replaced by technology, but not live stage performances. “In 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live,” she elaborated.

The ‘Atomic Blonde’ actress revealed that dance is one of the most challenging things she has done while preparing for her past roles. “Dance is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through in complete silence,” she explained.

Theron’s comments came after Chalamet said he wouldn’t prefer to work in both art forms, as he believes no one cares about them anymore. He said it while speaking about how to keep the magic of cinema alive.

“I admire people, and I’ve done it myself, who go on a talk show and go, ‘Hey, we gotta keep movie theaters alive. You know, we gotta keep this genre alive. And another part of me feels like, if people want to see it, like Barbie, like Oppenheimer, they’re going to go see it and go out of their way to be loud and proud about it,” Chalamet explained. His comments on ballet and opera, however, received massive backlash from the industry and fans alike.
